St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, whose feast day is celebrated on March 17, the date of his death. Interestingly, many non-Irish claim the heritage of that island nation on this day, as his feast is commemorated around the world celebrating all things green and gold, shamrocks, corned beef and cabbage and, well… alcohol! Although many festivities have taken on a more secular note, the intended meaning of his feast day centers around spiritual renewal, and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide.
