Mission Statement
The Outreach Commission provides servant leadership for all parish groups and ministries that
reach out beyond the people who come to church, fosters cooperation and
sharing of resources among groups, and sets visionary goals in keeping
with the core values of our parish.
2007-08 Goals
- Determine appropriate means by which Holy Family can address the
"second foot" of Catholic Social Teaching; that is, addressing the
causes and systemic issues that lead to hunger, poverty, and other
social ills.
STATUS: Ongoing.
ACTION: Bulletin announcements started in January, highlighting information available from the Catholic Conference of Bishops (CCC) and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) regarding pending legislative issues. "Faithful Citizenship," a publication of the Bishops, is being used to provide information for bulletin updates.
- Dolores Mission Sister Parish Goal – Maintain and develop core group of interested parishioners to develop and promote future activities designed for mutual enrichment consistent with the parish commitment to discipleship.
STATUS: Ongoing.
ACTION: Holy Family and Dolores Mission parishioners celebrated together at the fundraising benefit held on January 19, 2008 at Union Station, honoring Holy Family's John Watkins. We continue to work to expand Holy Family's involvement in tutorial and mentoring projects for Dolores Mission School and parish children from kindergarten through grade 8, as well as establishing consistent involvement by Holy Family parish organizations and family groups to provide meals for the Guadalupe Homeless Project housed at Dolores Mission.
- Maintain and optimize a working relationship designed to promote parish-wide discipleship goals among all Outreach ministries.
STATUS: Ongoing.
ACTION: Commission members keep in regular contact with Outreach ministry leaders, acting as liaisons between the ministries and the parish at large. Ministry leaders are kept up-to-date about issues of importance to the parish as a whole, and the commission is updated about the status of the ministry and any needs/resources that are needed. Ministry leaders received Christmas cards from the commission, thanking them for their hard work on behalf of the parish. We are looking into the usefulness of providing commission meeting minutes to the ministry leaders to keep them informed of commission activities.
