Mission Statement
Holy Family, a eucharistic community, invites its youth to serve at the table of the Lord to help facilitate our eucharistic liturgies in a regular and reverent manner.
About the Ministry
“Serving the holy people while we do our holy actions in the church is a way of growing closer to God. We cannot see God. But when we do something for people that we do see, we do those things for God . . .
Serving in the Church is a special privilege. It allows us to be close to the altar, to carry the cross, to carry the light of Christ, to wear the robe of baptism (alb), to hold the book of the prayers, – and to swing the thing that makes the smoke (the thurible)! How wonderful this is!”
– David Philippart, Serve God with Gladness: A Manual for Servers (Chicago: Liturgy Training Publications, 1998), p. 2.
Anyone who has entered at least the fifth grade may volunteer to serve at the table of the Lord as an Altar Server. It is out of one’s baptism into the Body of Christ that we are called to this ministry. Some at Holy Family have served well into their high school careers.
Adults are also welcome in this ministry. They generally serve when our younger servers are not available.
Highlights
Each year, our very best altar servers are invited to the Altar Server Luncheon. This year, the event was held at St. Phiip Church and sponsored by the Serra Club of Pasadena.
