March 20, 2007
Dear Parishioners,
Not all change is good, not all change is bad, but change is
inevitable. Twenty-three years ago when I came to Holy Family, it was a
major change in leadership. I was imposed on you with little
consultation. For some it was unwelcome, for everyone it was difficult,
and in retrospect an unexpected invitation to growth.
Since then Holy Family has seen a new day, new people, new leadership
and a new understanding of Church. The vitality of our parish is rooted
in the laity. Lay leadership is normative. A careful protocol of future
planning has guided us.
In the next few years, I will relinquish the responsibility of Pastor.
I will remain at Holy Family and continue to celebrate my priestly
ministry in liturgy, sacrament and pastoral service.
Now is the time to anticipate and plan ahead. It is wise for us to read
the signs of the time. There is a rapidly growing shortage of priests.
Providentially this has prompted a true understanding of the baptismal
call of the laity into church leadership. It has ushered in a renewed
awareness of the original identity of the priest as minister not
manager.
In this process over the next few years we must pray together and for
one another. Thank you for the blessing of our shared friendship and
faith.
Sincerely,
Msgr. Clement J. Connolly
