This ministry is open to men, women, singles, couples, families, youth, young adults, seniors.

 

Purpose of Position
Ushers provide a welcoming and hospitable atmosphere at Saturday evening and Sunday Masses and at other parish liturgies and ensure the orderly progress of the liturgy.

 

Responsibilities

  • Extend a warm welcome to all 
  • Seat parishioners and guests
  • Assist the disabled, elderly, and others in need of special help
  • Provide assisted listening devices to those who request them
  • Select people to bring the gifts to the altar
  • Take up the collection
  • Direct people toward the altar during the Liturgy of the Eucharist
  • Distribute the Sunday Bulletin after Mass
  • Follow established procedures in case of emergency
  • Tidy up the pews and vestibule after Mass

 

Skills Needed
A desire to serve.

 

Additional Requirements

  • Acknowledge receipt of and abide by the Archdiocesan Guidelines for Adults Interacting with Minors at Parish/School Activities or Events
  • Attend a Virtus “Protecting God’s Children” awareness session
  • Agree to be fingerprinted in accord with the Archdiocese background check procedures.

 

Amount of Time Required

  • Ushers arrive 20 minutes before Mass and remain a short time after Mass.
  • Two evening meetings each year.

 

When Ministry is Performed

  • Weekend Masses: Weekly.
  • Special liturgies (e.g., Holy Week, Easter, Christmas, First Eucharist, Confirmation), as needed.
  • If you are unable to commit to a weekly schedule, consider serving at special liturgies when additional ushers are needed.

 

Length of Commitment
Indefinite

 

What to Wear
Dress in a manner that is tasteful, dignified, and respectful of your liturgical role.

Provided on site.
