Purpose of Position
Members of the funeral planning ministry meet with families to share the Catholic practices of planning a funeral, vigil and burial. They offer support and assist the family of the deceased in preparing a meaningful Christian celebration of both life on earth and eternal life.

 

Responsibilities

  • Meet with family members to assist in planning the funeral Mass. This meeting takes approximately one hour.
  • Coordinate with parish staff and other ministries, as needed, in the planning process.
    Coordinate arrangements with parish staff responsible for the master calendar and clergy calendars.

 

Skills Needed

  • Knowledge of the funeral planning process and Rite of Christian Funerals
  • A supportive and caring attitude

 

When Ministry is Performed
Meetings with families generally take place during daytime office hours, by appointment. Funeral Masses at Holy Family are generally celebrated Tuesday–Friday at 10:00 a.m.

 

Length of Commitment
Ministers may serve as long as they wish.

 

Training
Training in the area of bereavement is available through the Los Angeles Archdiocese. http://www.archdiocese.la/prayer/cemeteries/bereavement/index.html.
