Purpose of Position
To be an adult presence to incarcerated children at Central
Juvenile Hall in Los Angeles
in accordance with the philosophy of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Office of
Restorative Justice.
Responsibilities
- Faithfulness to the ministry
Skills Needed
- Patience, compassion, willingness to listen
- Ability to withhold judgment
- Ability to establish a rapport with teenagers
Amount of Time Required
Minimum commitment of one Sunday per month from 8:30 a.m. to
11:00 a.m., or Wednesday evenings for approximately two hours after initial
training period.
When Ministry is Performed
Sunday morning or Wednesday evening.
What to Wear
All volunteers are asked to follow instructions given for
initial and subsequent visits.

Training Required
Brief orientation by facility chaplain on the day of first
visit, in-depth one-day orientation scheduled by the Archdiocesan Office of
Restorative Justice, and ongoing training as required by the Archdiocese of Los
Angeles.
Additional Requirements
- Age 21 or over

All volunteers are screened by the Los Angeles County
Probation Department
