"Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path." — Psalm
119:105
Mission Statement
Holy Family Bible Study provides a stimulating, enlightened
and prayerful approach to the study of sacred Scripture.
About Bible Study
Our approach to Bible Study incorporates prayer, personal
reflection and scholarly work. Three or four times a year, Holy Family Bible
Study chooses one book or a group of books from either Hebrew or Christian
Scripture. At the beginning of each series, we invite a scholar to present an
overview and some helpful insight into the book or books being studied. After
this keynote, the facilitator takes the group through the book(s), a few
chapters each week.
The weekly sessions begin with an opening prayer, usually
based on the previous Sunday's Gospel. Following prayer, the facilitator shares
insights, observations and exegesis on the scripture text for that week. These
presentations are 20 to 40 minutes. Then small groups of students gather and
discuss the reading material. Initially, each student receives two booklets:
one includes the scripture and commentary, and the other is a companion journal
book, which contains daily reflection questions. These are often discussed
during the small group time.
