Hi,

Below is our latest blog …

Candy and Jay Krueger

May 6, 2017 we continue our diaconate journey…Today we had a speaker, Sr. Mary Dominic, from the Metropolitan Marriage Tribunal with the focus being on annulments. (Please click here to read all of our experiences of the bi-monthly  Deacon formation classes)

One of the focus areas of an annulment is the baptismal state of the individuals. This area is also of interest for those going through R.C.I.A. In order for a baptism from another faith to be recognized as valid, it must have two components:

  • Water is used
  • The Trinitarian formula is used (i.e. I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.)

Examples of those denominations whose baptism is recognized includes: Anglican, Assembly of God, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, and the United Church of Christ. Due to the lack of one or more of the components above, baptisms from faiths such as the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Pentecostal, Quakers and Unitarians, which dedicate those to God, are not recognized as valid by the Catholic Church.

Members from Salvation Army, Shakers and Christian Science backgrounds, for example, have no form of baptism as part of their rituals.

Also three of our fellow classmates completed their practicums for the Deacon at the Altar as well as reflections on our week retreat at Mary and Joseph Retreat Center.  All found the week retreat as an avenue to relax, focus on the prayerful and joyous surroundings and reconnect with fellow classmates, reflecting on the journey thus far.  The St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Formation Class was able to fellowship with one another, spending time to laugh, talk and pray as this amazing aspect of the journey comes to a close and our new lives as Deacon Couples begin.  The retreat was an incredible blessing to all.

As of May 6th there are 34 days till ordination.

Please remember those in the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Diaconate class in your prayers we enter into our last months of formation.

And our Diaconate Journey continues…
