January 9, 2016 we continue our diaconate journey…at Alemany High School, Mission Hills. Our next class will also be at Alemany High School, Mission Hills on January 24th, 2016. One of the items that we reviewed was part of the requirements for out Baptism practicum. (Please click here to read all of our experiences of the bi-weekly Deacon formation classes).
If you have been following this blog for a while, you will remember that there were practicums for proclaiming as a lector, proclaiming the Gospel, homilies and vigils. A practicum is when you conduct a service from beginning to end, in the case of a vigil or proclaim a Gospel and homily.
For the Baptism practicum they will take place over the next 12 classes in the chapel at the high school. We will be responsible for preparing the environment, including the baptismal font, producing the worship aid, getting classmates to participate in the various roles. The entire practicum should take about 45 minutes and is for a single child.
If, by chance you either have your child Baptized or you attend a Baptism at Holy Family, you will more than likely see Jay in attendance. He is there to assist, observe, and become more comfortable with the rite.
