July Discipleship Letter – Bookstore

July 2020

Greetings from the Basement!!

I hope that most of you know the “treasure” that is the Holy Family Bookstore, located in the lower level of Connolly Parish Hall. We will celebrate our 20th anniversary in October.

During the months of March, April, May, and early June, we were operating on an “order only” basis. We are now open for in-store shopping by appointment. Please call the store or e-mail us to set up an appointment. You can be assured of a pleasant, uncrowded shopping experience with our undivided attention to your questions and needs. For the foreseeable future, our store hours will be reduced to 5 days a week…Tuesday thru Saturday…from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. If you need to shop during a time when we are not normally open, please call and we will accommodate you, if possible.

Whether your last visit to the Bookstore was last week, last year, or even longer, we invite you to come back. We’re sure you will find something interesting and new. As baptisms, weddings, First Communions and Confirmations resume, please be assured that you are certain to find the right gift for all ages.

Our selection of sterling silver and gold-filled medals is large and we are happy to order from vendor catalogs if you don’t see what you are looking for. Rosaries, crucifixes, statues, candles, and other devotional items abound. We have merchandise at all price points and we can accommodate budgets of all sizes.

Our Catholic Bible selection is the largest in the San Gabriel Valley. And that brings us to books. Spiritual books from contemporary to classic can be found. And if you don’t find what you are looking for in the store, we are happy to search and order it for you (even out of print books). We love to entertain book suggestions from our customers and also appreciate feedback on those purchased in the store. Book recommendations from Msgr. Connolly and our Parish Life Director, Cambria Tortorelli, are displayed on shelves in the front of the store. You can be assured of a quality “read” if you choose books from these shelves. We are also happy to feature reading recommendations from Fr. Michael Fish. We are also very proud of our carefully curated children’s book section.

Our selection of Fair Trade merchandise is extensive and we wholeheartedly support the worldwide movement to provide just wages, humane working conditions, and environmentally friendly production methods, including sustainability, all of which are important principles of the Fair Trade Movement. The sale of our coffee, tea, nuts, and chocolate, as well as handmade goods, support small family farms, artistisan cooperatives, and individual family businesses.

We offer a variety of services in the Bookstore, including Gift Certificates of any denomination, and we offer complimentary gift wrap for purchases over $50.00. There is a nominal charge for purchases under $50.00. We can ship your packages to any destination within the continental United States.

We hope you will visit the Bookstore this summer and into the fall. You will be pleasantly surprised at the variety of books and gift items we feature. And watch the bulletin for discount coupons and special sales. If you prefer curbside pick-up or would like items shipped to you, we are happy to accommodate you as well.

Peace and blessings to you,

Anne McGann–Yee
