Sharon DeBriere, Diane Sternal and Mathew Helgeson
Monday, Oct. 3rd, a new school library at Dolores Mission was dedicated. Fr. Scott Santarosa gave a special blessing at the Monday morning assembly. Diane Sternal and other volunteers have been working tirelessly to make this a reality for the children attending Dolores Mission School.
Christ used many hands, in addition to Diane’s, to bring this vision to fruition. Sharon DeBriere, a familiar face to many Holy Family parishioners (her mother was a long time Holy Family member) shared her time and expertise including having established a library at 9th Street School in Los Angeles.
Father Scott Santarosa and Principal, Karina Moreno, were supportive of this project and allowed space in the bungalow on campus to house the library. Father Robert Dolan, fixed up the old bookcases. Jane Argento helped buy baskets to sort , carry and display books. Tom and Geri Woessner helped tape identification tags on books this summer. Christ Child Society, Ginna Schimmoller and Carol Watkins donated many wonderful books.
Matthew Hegelson, Holy Family Parishioner and member of local Scout troop #333 , chose to build, paint and install several beautiful new bookcases (such as the one pictured here) as his Eagle Scout project. His parents, Diane and Richard Helgeson, were also instrumental in the completion of the project.
Many of the volunteers who contributed to the formation of the library attended Friday’s dedication ceremony as well as some who volunteer as tutors at Dolores Mission on a weekly basis, including; Nila Figel, Bernadette McCann, Marie Portello,Geri Woessner, Donna Gibson, and Fran Hovorka.
