Summary
These readings for the second Sunday of Advent remind us that the Glory of God
is coming. This glory manifests itself in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. We
are encouraged to prepare the way for our Lord. This preparation includes a life
of prayer, reflection and devotion in having the life that God intended for us.
Reflection
The hustle and bustle of the Christmas season is upon us. How will we ever
complete everything on time? The presents, the wrapping, the Christmas cards,
the dinners, just thinking of the holidays seems to overwhelm us. When will we
have time to prepare the way for our Lord? One of my favorite quotes of recent
is that by Lily Tomlin, “For fast acting relief, try slowing down”. If by slowing
down just a few minutes a day allows us to prepare our hearts and souls for the
most wonderful thing about Advent, should we not take this ‘prescription’?. For
just a few minutes a day, we are encouraged to ‘listen’ to the season and pre-
pare for the One who will ‘baptize us in the holy Spirit’.
God is patient with us, he allows us each year to renew our commitment to him
through the Holy Season of Advent. Our endless days are but just seconds of
time to God, ‘one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one
day’. He continually seeks us out and asks us to come to Him through Jesus
Christ. He asks for mere moments of our time. He wants to comfort us and give
us ‘new heavens and a new earth’, but we need
to be ready for his kindness and salvation. Ad-
vent season reminds us to not just prepare our
homes for Christmas, but to prepare our lives in
service and devotion to God. This preparation
