Genesis 3:9-15, 20
Psalm 98:1,2-3AB, 3CD-4
Ephesians 1:3-6, 11-12
Luke 1:26-38
Summary
Today we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary,
when MARY is conceived without sin. The first reading from Genesis,
the fall of Adam and Eve, points us to the need for our Gospel (Good
News) for today. This Gospel is when Mary, greeted by angel Gabriel
as “full of grace”, and she responds: “Behold, I am the handmaid of
the Lord” and accepts her favor, his Word in her womb.
Reflection
I love Mary! I love her example to us. I love her
yes to us. I love her graciousness. I love her
humility. I don’t envy her though. She was
young, she was engaged, thinking she had to
call off her engagement, she was a bit con-
fused, she was destined for a heart piercing,
she watched her son be ridiculed, beaten, spat
upon, and killed, she held him dead in her
arms. It’s good we know the “whole story”, but
nonetheless, her
life could not have
been “easy”.
