that we will be reunited
with our loved ones
who have already seen
the face of Jesus.
While there are many
gifts to be shared this
season, the greatest
gift that our beloved
departed can give us is
the acknowledgement
of our own limitations. Author Brett Grainger in his reflection of Henri
Nouwen’s death says, “Deep grieving, as painful as it is, offers an
opportunity to be strengthened in our sense of what it is to be a
creature with weight inaccessible to us otherwise.” We turn to infant
Savior to strengthen our burden. We look to the bright star not only
over Bethlehem but the one that shines deep within our hearts.
Prayer
Jesus we ask you that when we are weak, help us to lean on You.
While we pray for ourselves, we also pray for the souls of our de-
parted loved ones. We remember in the gospel, these glorious inno-
cent martyrs who not only died for You, but also took Your place. May
we join them and all our loved ones in your eternal kingdom.
