is for us to admit our worship of false appearances. Idols are activities, values,
and social constructs which we can see, BUT they have no Substance. They
have no realness, no life within them. With our own gods, we think we won't feel
so afraid or so little and powerless. We can shape our own kingdoms and reward
ourselves for following our own rules. We can "feed" ourselves with our own
sense self-importance and control over the frightening mystery of life.
'We are dust, and to dust we shall return.'
The Good News is that we are loved and known by our real God, and
we are now and will be fed beyond anything we can imagine, realize or
want. And that's for REAL, believe it or not! Day by day, all of us must
choose to accept this Realness as best we can, and repent of the oh-so
-many times we prefer to go it on our own. And the terror of our free-
dom-in-God is that we can choose not to trust this Good News and turn
away from the true source of our happiness.
Prayer
Our loving God,
I stumble and stammer as I approach you.
I can't imagine that you love me through and through.
I just can't. Help me in my un-belief.
I can't believe that I am safe in Your hands.
I am terrified to rest in Your hands. Help me in my fearfulness.
All You ask of me is: Trust Me.
Oh Lord, give me the grace to take you at Your Word.
Give me this grace today.
Tomorrow and every day after that, I will ask You for it again and again.
Amen
