Basic HTML Version

The Gospel reading finds Jesus being pestered by Pharisees "seeking from him a
sign from heaven to test him." This demand is in direct opposition to the loving
faith that Jesus requires, and He can see that their doubtful hearts are not open
to His message. His sigh as He turns away is "from the depth of his spirit." He
is so disappointed, so heartsick that these Pharisees cannot accept the miracu-
lous sign already standing before them: Jesus himself.
How often are we these Pharisees, unwilling to believe unless we are given a sign
of our choosing? How many signs and wonders do we miss, holding out
for what we think we need?
Prayer
Help us, oh Lord, to come to You with unconflicted hearts, truly open to
Your loving guidance. Open our eyes to the blessing of our suffering,
and help us to accept each burden with the knowledge that bearing it
with love will bring us closer to You.
Amen
