could fight against it ˀ get myself all lathered up, but really to what end? The
authority of American Airlines is such that I can˅t control it.
It is really difficult for us humans to wrap our head around the thought giving
up control and handing ourselves over to authority ˀ especially God˅s ulti-
mate authority. We seem to constantly fight against God˅s power, thinking
that we are keeping control over our lives, our destiny. The more we try to
control our individual lives, keeping such a tight rein on our emotions or our
family or our wallet or our time, the more it seems that the world conspires to
rip that control from our grasp. One missed connection at an airport makes
the point quite nicely.
So, stop fighting God˅s authority on your life. And I˅m pointing the finger
squarely at myself here. He only wants what is best for us. We must listen to
His voice within each of us closely and carefully ˀ daily, minute-by-minute
ˀ in order to yield back to Him His authority over our lives. He˅s walking be-
side us, with us every step of the way, wanting to fill our lives with love and
blessings. Sometimes, the only way we can hear Him is when we are forced
to give up our control and yield to His authorityˎwhether we do it willingly at
Sunday morning mass in the sanctuary of Holy Family Catholic Church, sur-
rounded by a community of believers or whether it comes unexpectedly, like
at Terminal B of DFW airport.

Dear God, help me heed
Your voice within me. Tem-
per my desire for control and
allow me to be open to your
authority, love and spirit in all
facets of my life. Amen.
