ˈold boyfriends and girlfriendsˉ who have since married others and have
families of their own, have thrown showers for single moms and babysat
their children, put on ˈwakesˉ for those who otherwise would not have had
one, welcomed back ˈprodigalˉ family members (and their dogs) and killed
the fatted calf for them. My parents are very ˈtraditionalˉ in their beliefs but
I have never seen them turn anyone away from their home/their ˈtableˉ no
matter where that person might have ˈbeenˉ. Their generosity is astound-
ing. Many of our closest friends truly consider themselves part of my fam-
ily ˀ and so do we!
And though the depths of my family˅s love ˀ for each other, and for their
closest friends- never ceases to amaze me, this gospel reminds me that
this is just a small glimmer of the universe of love that God feels for me
and for all who do His will.
I
am His family. Wow!

Oh Beloved Friend, I bless you and I praise you. You reached down and
saved me. You pulled me to yourself and told me that you loved me, that
my heart belongs to you, that no one could ever harm me. You are my
mother, my brother, my father, my friend.
And I am yours. All I ask is that you let
me know how to give myself fully to you
every day, to delight you, to love you, to
complete myself. You are everything to
me. Amen
