Church of St. Anne in Jerusalem are some of the
most amazing I have ever heard. Upon entering,
one cannot help but want to sing a song. Indeed,
many pilgrims do! It was a great delight to sing
songs with other faithful while paying homage to the
parents of Mary and the grandparents of Jesus.
And, as I left this church, I lit a candle for my own
grandparents. In particular, I lit a special candle for
my grandmother Jane. As a maturing young Chris-
tian, I chose the name Jane as my Confirmation
name in honor of the loving example of faith and
Christian action that I had witnessed in her life. To-
day, consider lighting a candle in your home and
saying a little prayer for your grandparentsˁwherever they may be.

On this day, we bless all grandparents. Like Sts. Anne and Joachim, may they
rejoice in the precious gift of their grandchildren and teach them in the ways of
faith. And, as disciples, may we eagerly assume the role of teacher as we wel-
come a new generation of seekers. We ask these things in Your name, Jesus
Christ.
