protection, but we must also not let these instances pervade every encounter we
have. This is where the problem develops to the point of judging everyone we
meet in the same context.
I was recently at a dinner with some people I have known for some time, but
really only knew from a distance. I would see these people on occasion and
would exchange a greeting but really did not have an in depth conversation with
them. Then as this dinner was approaching I was wondering what we would talk
about and from by previous encounters with them I anticipated a very superficial
exchange of thoughts about the world. Well to my surprise the dinner was very
delightful, full of interesting conversation about what they enjoyed doing and on
how much we had in common.
As I am writing this reflection I realize how much this gospel speaks to me about
how my judging other people, even in a superficial manner, can affect my per-
ception of others. And I wonder how many of my past encounters with people
have been affected in a like manner and how I have prevented that person to be
who they really are.

Help me to think of people at their best rather than my perceiving them as some-
thing less.
Help me to remember that we are all created in your image.
Help me see you in everyone I encounter.
This I ask in Your name,
Amen
