the fire. He also draws on the analogy of a wolf in sheep˅s clothing for us
to know how false prophets will present themselves. There are some peo-
ple who are misguided in their understanding/interpretation of God˅s word,
but this warning is not about them. It˅s about those who purposely work
against the truth of God˅s promise.
I asked my thirteen year old son what this reading meant to him. Without
much pondering he replied, ˈIf you˅re a bad person and pretend to be
good, people will know you are bad by your bad deeds.ˉ I asked him why
a
false
prophet would do this, and he said, ˈSo they can get money from
people or for praise from othersˉ. The reading is very straight forward
and makes sense; yet false prophets do find their way into people˅s lives.
It˅s not only important that we be on our guard and watchful against false
prophets, but we must share the word of God with others and bear good
fruit!

Father in Heaven, I pray that I always find the strength to follow you
Like King Josiah, let me be a good disciple and help others to follow you
too
Help me to stay on the right path that leads me to you and to not be tricked
by those who preach false doctrine and lead me away from your truth.
I ask this in your name.
Amen
