the Pharisees to criticize Jesus, and for Jesus to respond so impor-
tantly.
But can we take something else away from the story of Levi and the
ˈgreat banquetˉ? Levi was so moved by God˅s calling that he not
only left everything, but he also wanted to tell everyone he knew and
have them meet Jesus! Do you think it was daring of Levi? Do you
think that he worried about what people would think of him? How
great his conviction and joy must have been to overcome the social
pressures.
When have you been called by Jesus? In many different ways we
have chosen to follow Jesus, but have we celebrated our relationship
with God with others not of our faith? Have we invited our friends,
family, neighbors, colleagues, and acquaintances to meet Jesus?
Have you been invited to enjoy a meal with the living God?
Holy Family throws a great banquet for Jesus at special events
throughout the year, through our ministry activities, at the Parish Fair
and Divine Dinners and in the celebration of Mass each day. If you
aren˅t planning your own great banquet, perhaps you˅ll consider join-
ing the Parish at one of theirs.
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for your word, thank you for calling Levi. Help us to
respond to you in a fashion befitting God˅s calling. Challenge us to
celebrate our relationship with you with the people in our lives. Amen.
