Summary
These readings are the start of Lent. For us, it contains the message
that we should listen to the warnings that are around us and act upon
them. This message is conveyed in the three readings that we have
today. First, in the story telling of Jonah saving the Ninevites. Sec-
ond, in the Psalm, with its repeating response, that with a humble and
contrite heart, God will not spurn you. Third, in the Gospel, which
quite subtly points out that Jesus has come and he is our Jonah and
we are all Ninevites.
Reflection
How many times do we get told something interesting, but since it
might be difficult to hear, we reject the message (or the messenger)
because it does not fit with
what we are doing? Listening
and seeing the message that
is contained in each other's
conversation can help us to
improve our lives and our re-
lationships.
