The first reading shows us the generosity of our
God. The privilege of knowing Him
is to be shared by all humankind.
The Gospel has three important themes: (1) If you
know me, you know the Father.
(2)Whoever believes in me will do the works that I do.
(3) If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.

EFLECTION
In the time of Jesus people were oppressed with the thought of the dis-
tance between God and humanity. If God did come among them He
would come as a King with power to slay their enemies and bring peace.
To Jews and Greeks God was the “invisible”.
Jesus claimed to be the revelation of God, His words were God’s voice
speaking to humanity. His deeds were God’s power flowing through Him
to people He transmitted the glory and love of God to all. Jesus based
His claim on His word and His works. He could see into the heart of mena
and women and spoke the truth to them. His works of healing not only
the sick body, but also the sick soul of people exemplified God’s power
working through Him.
When Jesus died and rose again He was liberated from the limitations of
the flesh and His Spirit was set free to operate with power throughout the
whole world. This power was passed on to the Apostles “that they might
be an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth”. It is also our duty
to help and to heal.
