walk are so much harder than
others. Today’s readings from
the Gospel of John and Acts re-
mind us of the martyrdom of
Peter and Paul. It is humbling to think of all they did to spread the teach-
ings of Jesus in a hostile world when I consider how much easier my path
is today as a citizen of the United States. And it reminds me that in many
parts of the world – from Egypt to India, from China to Indonesia – it is not
an easy thing to proclaim that you are Christian. Many people we do not
know struggle as valiantly today as Peter and Paul did long ago.

God of grace, be with us during our struggles, and help us turn towards
you and grow in spirit. Open our
eyes and hearts to the struggles
of others, and help us to always
see and treat them as our fellow
children of God.
