pray that I can look at the faces of those who have shamed us
and shamed our church and see Christ’s presence in them. I
want to recognize that perhaps to cloth the naked, I need to
clothe with compassion those whose sins and frailties have
been publicly laid bare – just as I need to be part of a commu-
nity that offers safety and shelter for those who have been op-
pressed by our society and by our church. I need Lent to be a
quiet time of reflection and an open heart. I need a fasting
from the chaos of conflict.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be
done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our
trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into tempta-
tion, but deliver us from evil. Amen
