more than it was before. These parables suggest that the Kingdom begins
as a small thing, unnoticed and seemingly insignificant, but over time it will
produce enormous benefits.
Each of us has a role in sowing the Kingdom in the world. Each day our
lives touch the lives of others, through smiles and compliments, mocking
laughter and criticism. Our actions change the course of their lives, plant-
ing seeds that may grow for good or ill, that may further the growth of the
Kingdom or cause it to whither.
We cannot know all of the consequences
of our actions, both good and ill. They
may blossom far beyond our wildest
imaginations – and yet we may never
recognize it. But Jesus has told us that
this is the way of the Kingdom, so we
struggle on and run the race as best we
can. And as the Apostle Paul says, we
hope.
Prayer
Lord, establish Your Kingdom in me and
through me. Guide me, so that each day
my actions spread the Kingdom. Teach
me to have faith that the Kingdom is
growing in the world, to hope in the King-
dom.
