Francis˅ day). Living in the town of Gubbio for some time, St. Fran-
cis, in his compassion for his neighbors and with full trust in the Lord,
decided to confront a wolf who had been terrorizing the neighbor-
hood. He told the wolf to put aside his murderous ways, and if he did
so, peace would come among them, sanctified by God. Furthermore,
people would forgive him and provide for him all the days of his life.
Not only did the wolf live up to this peace agreement, but the towns-
people also found great joy in serving the wolf and praising God who
had sent them St. Francis.

RAYER
Good and gracious God,
Empower me to leave everything behind.
Give me courage to bring peace,
to be a lamb among wolves,
to serve with the great urgency
of a true disciple.
Let the mission of the seventy-two disciples remind me
that there were seventy-two hours between your life, death and res-
urrection.
