between the old and the new with the metaphor with the patched garments and
            
            
              then the parable?  The scribes and Pharisees are judging Jesus' actions because
            
            
              they are different from theirs and Jesus isn˅t conforming to their traditions.  This
            
            
              judgment is what the reading and the psalm are pointing to.
            
            
              So what˅s the big deal?  Why all the talk of old and new?  Jesus is making a new
            
            
              contract with us, the church.  Jesus is coming in with radical Good News to the
            
            
              poor, the disenfranchised, the oppressed, the sick, and the brokenhearted. Doing
            
            
              good works and fasting are not part of this contract; only grace and faith through
            
            
              the church will save us.
            
            
              These two messages taken together can be summarized as so, the covenant be-
            
            
              tween God and man is changing through Christ, and it is only through this mar-
            
            
              riage of bride and groom, Jesus and church, can anyone be saved.

              RAYER
            
            
              Lord, may I live without judging others, knowing that your judgment is all that
            
            
              counts.
            
            
              Keep me in your grace and help me listen and act in ways that you intend.
            
            
              Lord in your mercy, hear
            
            
              our prayer.
