UMMARY
Jesus asks us, ˈIs it lawful to do good on the Sabbath rather than do
evil, to save life rather than destroy it?ˉ

EFLECTION
In this Gospel Jesus heals the withered hand of a man and does so
on the Sabbath. He does this with the scribes and Pharisees watch-
ing. They were hoping to discover a reason to accuse Jesus and
have Him arrested.
Jesus asks, ˈIs it lawful to do good on the Sabbath rather than do
evil, to save life rather than destroy it?ˉ
How do we do good on the Sabbath and what does that mean?
Which day represent the Sabbath to you? Is it when you go to
church, or perhaps when you pick up a few extra items to drop off for
the Giving Bank when you come to Mass? Is it taking Communion to
someone who is homebound? Maybe it is when you get a call from a
friend who is dealing with a problem that seem insurmountable and
you drop what you were doing to be there, to help or maybe to listen.
Is it preparing bags of groceries for those in need? Is it something
else? It is all of these and more.
We are asked to do good and to save life rather than destroy it.
