Good afternoon, everyone,
As you know, we are preparing to say goodbye to Mrs. Girmus and welcome a new Principal in July!
I am delighted to share with you that the Archdiocesan Department of Catholic Schools was able to refer an excellent candidate to us who made a very strong impression on our interview team. After multiple interviews and interactions with her, we feel that Jennifer Garzia has the qualities and experience that are responsive to the priorities articulated by the faculty and the HF community and necessary to make her a successful Principal at Holy Family School. The Superintendent of Catholic Schools of the Diocese of San Jose, who is also her Supervisor, describes Mrs. Garzia as a “phenomenal” and “transformative” leader. She had a number of other schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles interested in hiring her, which meant that we had to act expeditiously. I am happy to say that Mrs. Garzia accepted our offer and will be joining Holy Family School on July 1st, 2021.
Click here for Mrs. Garzia’s bio, which describes her background and leadership philosophy. She will be moving to South Pasadena from Mountain View with her husband, Stefano, and son, Liam, along with their cat and dog.
I know you will join me in keeping Mrs. Garzia and her family in your prayers, as well as Mrs. Girmus and her husband, as they embark on these major life transitions.

Dear Holy Family School community,
As you have read from Mrs Girmus, she and her husband have decided to move back to Virginia this summer and will be leaving Holy Family School at the end of this school year.
We are most grateful for Mrs. Girmus’ leadership, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been a remarkably challenging time. I know you will join me in offering our prayers and well wishes for Mrs. Girmus in her future endeavors, and we ask for your support and patience during this time of transition.
Jim Griesgraber, the President of the School Board, and I have been working with our Archdiocesan Department of Catholic Schools to find the next Principal of Holy Family School. Those of you who were part of the school community in the 2018/19 School Year will remember the extensive outreach and community input that we conducted as part of the recruitment process of the Principal. Our current recruitment process is heavily informed by these efforts. At this point, we can share with you that the search is looking very promising.
We have assembled a team to assist us in identifying our next HFS leader, which is composed of:
·Christina Altmayer (past President of the School Board and former parent)
·Michelle Bonoan (current parent and recruitment professional)
·Maureen Diekmann (President of Immaculate Heart High School, School Board member and former parent)
·Sheila Laco (former HFS faculty member, parent and former School Board member)
·Sr. Carolyn McCormack (President of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy & School Board member)
We anticipate being able to update you on the search for the new Principal soon!
May the Lord’s blessing be with our entire school community as we celebrate in the joy and promise of the Resurrection this Easter season.

Dear Parents of Holy Family Knights,
I hope that your family had a lovely Easter break and that you were able to create some beautiful memories!
As many of you know, I came to experience winters without snow. How wonderful it has been to experience the year-round California sunshine and the amazing California produce! The clear blue skies and ability to get a tan at carpool are something one doesn’t experience anywhere else!
This has been a trying year for all of us, parents, students, teachers, and principals alike. Transitioning from in-person school to virtual, beginning a school year virtually, and the changing over to a hybrid model as we slowly and safely brought students back has been a tremendous challenge. At the same time, it is wonderful to see our school coming back to life and to hear students at recess once again!
My husband and I have thoroughly enjoyed these two years in California, but have decided to return to Virginia for the upcoming school year.
Every educator leaves behind a gift. It has been my great pleasure to welcome four-year-olds to campus as members of our new TK program. And during these unprecedented times, it has been my privilege to seamlessly lead Holy Family School through this pandemic.
Thank you for the kindness and support shown me and for the memories which I will treasure. Please know that I will be here through the end of this school year.
Be well, God bless, and go Knights!
Mrs. Darcie Girmus, Principal
