UMMARY
Although we may not always recognize the face of Jesus and His healing power,
the invitation remains ours to break bread, to journey with Him and in Him, with
our hearts burning within usˎlet us come and see.

EFLECTION

In both the first reading and the gospel, this Confucian truth is revealed. In Acts,
John and Peter say to the crippled beggar at the city gates, ˈLook at us.ˉ They
explain that the power to save him was not of this earth (ˈI have neither silver nor
goldˉ), but rather they heal him through the power of Jesus of Nazareth. Had he
not risen immediately and begun to walk for
the first time in his life, would the beggar
and those who witnessed this miracle have
understood the saving power of Jesus?
Likewise, in the gospel of Luke, Jesus
speaks to two disciples who are traveling
from Jerusalem to Emmaus in a pleading,
perhaps frustrated, tone: ˈOh, how foolish
you are! How slow of heart to believe all
that the prophets spoke!ˉ He asks them if
