O God.ˉ
Nothing can get more raw than that; literally aching for the only thing
that can keep us alive ˀ water, living water. God˅s water.
Jesus˅ words in John are both wonderful and harsh. The sheep wait for the gate-
keeper, then their shepherd, before they can go through the gate. Once through,
they follow their shepherd and no one else,
because they recognize his voice
.
Everybody has their idols ˀ some love beauty, some money, some fame, some
drugs, some possessions. Likewise the thieves and evildoers follow their desires
in this passage. They haven˅t heard
the voice
. Bob Dylan says it all in the lyrics
of his prophetic song: ˈIt might be the devil, or it might be the Lord, but you gotta
serve somebody.ˉ And depending on what or who you serve, you may not get
through the gate. You may not ˈhave life and have it more abundantly.ˉ

RAYER
Wake us up Jesus. Let us get our priorities straight. Let us look you in the eyes
up there on the cross, and be able to say to you ˈWe will believe in you, we will
long for you, we will follow you.ˉ
