Today˅s Gospel is very well known and repeated in songs and ser-

mons alike. I especially like how Jesus explains the life of a Christian

in such practical and visual terms. I am the vine and you are the

branches; God is the vine grower. The link from God to Jesus to all

of us is clearly established. In contrast to the debate in Acts as to

whether circumcision, ( as was the Mosaic practice) was required to

be saved. Jesus in the Gospel of John makes clear that he alone is

the way to be saved with no clever way of excluding Gentiles.

I remember the first year in our current home. I was so excited be-

cause in the backyard was an avocado tree and I love avocados. The

tree was right over our patio and would give us shade but more im-

              portantly; fruit! Well I

              soon found out how

              dirty and messy avo-

              However my eyes were

              focused on the prize as

              I continually cleaned
