flame ˀ the woman he prayed to God would become his wife. The catch is that
when he runs into her again, he is with his wife ˀ the woman he actually married,
who is the true love of his life. The chorus of the song reflects his gratitude to-
wards God:
Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer, doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers
Had his prayer been answered to marry his high school sweetheart, he never
would have met and married his soul-mate, his true love. I˅m sure that we can
all relate to these feelings of gratitude for NOT having received what we have
prayed for at times. Usually though, it takes us a long while to appreciate these
revelations. While we are still in petition we often think God is not listening, has
abandoned us, or is mad at us ˀ somehow we are not worthy. It is so difficult
for us humans to ˈLet Go and Let Godˉ. We are taught by our society that we are
to have the answers, figure it all out, and that we are weak, or flawed if we don˅t
or can˅t. Achievement, acquisition, power and control are the watchwords in our
society, and so often we forget who is really in charge. If we could only keep in
mind that God always knows what is best for us, and that by doing His will and
living the life for which He created us, we will ensure that ˈour joy will be com-
pleteˉ. As Garth summed it all up, ˈI guess the Lord knows what he˅s doin˅ after
allˉ.

Dear Father, we come to you in Jesus˅ name, and ask that you assist us with our
needs and petitions as we face the trials and tribulations in our lives. May we al-
ways remember that you hear and answer us without fail, and that an answer of
ˈNoˉ from you does not mean that you do not love us, but rather that you have a
better plan that we cannot yet see. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
