thing we need; we can’t know what that is, only He can.
The point is reiterated in the Gospel for the day, when Jesus reproaches his peo-
ple, saying “A prophet is not without honor except in his native place
and among his own kin and in his own house." His family and those gathered
around him are bringing him down because of his relation to humanity, and the
fact that they feel they “know” him. Rather, they should be exalting him for his
connection with and knowledge of God. Their lack of faith, and ours, renders
him unwilling to perform the miracles he has done for others already.
Faith should be the only proof that they require that He is God.
We want to thank God daily for his blessings, and try not to count them.
We can be aware of what many of them are, but we can also thank him
for the ones we don’t know about, the ones that he bestows on us with-
out our need for reassurance, or trying to guess what they are. This in-
ability to know and not require proof is what defines our faith.
Prayer
“Omnipotent and loving Father, I praise you and thank you for the gifts
given me today, those known and unknown. I ask that you forgive me
for doubts that may plague me today. Strengthen me with the knowledge
that you will always provide what I need to give me serenity. I offer you
the doubts of today and ask that you change them into faith. Amen.”
