servant, loving God through any adversity. The Psalmist speaks to
God of lingering distress on behalf of his people. He trusts and be-
lieves. And in Mark, Jesus ultimately turned to himself – as the son of
God – saying a few lines later that “Satan cannot drive out Satan.”
Only God can help us in our trials.
A second way to help ourselves in our deep troubles is to understand
and accept that God will look out for us, but in his perfect timing. In
our lightning speed generation, this can be frustrating and seem not
to make sense. Let’s face it, the rationale of God’s timing is often a
mystery to us!... It can be as slow as molasses. But
the beauty is that the more we believe, the more we
will become a beloved of God’s. We are in the best
hands. It is up to us to try and remain in him through
good times and bad. Like the verse “I will not be
moved”, we too need to remain steadfast, just as
God is steadfast in his love for us.
Prayer
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
