Summary
In each of these 3 readings, the primary subjects are dealing with se-
rious or grave circumstances: In 2 Samuel, David is in utter grief at
the death of Saul and Jonathan; the Psalmist expresses despair at the
absence of God for so long; and in Mark, Jesus is belittled as being
out of his mind, in other words crazy.
Reflection
We all have times in our lives when things seem to go badly wrong –
not just one thing one time, but many events which compound and
seem not to end. What these readings help us to understand is that
we do not have to be mired in our distress all by ourselves. Each of
