can concentrate on higher things like the resurrection of Jesus Christ
or penance for past excesses. In today˅s Gospel, Jesus explains why
his disciples didn˅t need to fast during that time because THEY WERE
WITH JESUS. Actually in person, body and mind, with Jesus. Amaz-
ing thought today in 2012! However, Jesus then prophesizes about
his death and how that will mark the beginning of fasting for the dis-
ciples because he is no longer with them in body, just as it is today
for us.
This has most likely been a busy week for most people. On July 4
th
, it
was a federal holiday, celebrating America˅s Independence. Maybe
you˅ve been barbequing, singing songs, watching parades, having a
family reunion, or watching firework displays this week. Not too dis-
similar to a typical wedding feast in Jesus˅ day that lasted 7 days.
While there is no reason to fast, as the weekend holiday draws to a
close, how can you help bring your body and mind back to Jesus
Christ?

Lord, let us remember when we eat what you sacrificed for us.
And how there are others all around us that go without every day.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
