Jeremiah 17:5-10
Psalm 1:1-2, 3, 4 and 6
Luke 16:19-31
Summary
There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen
and dined sumptuously each day and a poor man named Lazarus,
who lay hungry at his gate. The poor man died, and was carried
away by angels to the bosom of Abraham. The rich man also died
and went to hell. He cried out, ˈHave mercy on me!ˉ Abraham said,
ˈRemember that during your lifetime you received good things, and
Lazarus in like manner evil things; now is comforted here, and you are
in agony.ˉ
Reflection
This man is so far out of God˅s love and experience. He does not
even see the change of the seasons in God˅s creation. The next
person enjoys God˅s love as a tree always green, well watered, with-
out distress. God knows all of our hearts and will reward us accord-
ing to His ways.
