bow down to the gods of King Nebuchadnezzar. The three were killed in a fiery
furnace, but not before they displayed the power of God, who allowed them to
walk within the furnace unharmed. Could I be that faithful to God if the king
asked me to do something that is unholy?
When I reflect on such a passage I am reminded of the great people who stood
up to the evil of the society rather than give into their own safety. People like St.
Paul, Catherine of Siena, Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mother
Teresa. These people listened to the God living in their hearts and remained
steadfast in their resolve to make justice speak through their words and ac-
tions. I like to think my life is small and insignificant compared to Shadrach, Me-
shach, Abednego, Catherine, Peter and Paulˁyet all them probably felt like I do,
small
.
Still,
take the words of a saint
:
Do small things with great love.
Prayer
The truth about me O Lord, is that I am a sinner, but you already know
that. Mercy is what keeps me here, your divine mercy that astounds and awes
me. You continue to call me to new abundant life in you. Help me to continue a
path, drawing me closer to you.
Amen.
