Reflection
Today˅s readings remind us of the power and importance of fasting in
our lives. The Gospel reminds us that fasting is a sign of mourning
while the Reading reminds us that fasting is a way to humble our-
selves before God. Fasting can come in many forms; we can deny
ourselves food, television, or time on the computer. We can perform
deeds. However we choose to fast, the objective is the same ˀ to
create time and space in order to focus on our relationship with God
and the message of His teachings. Do you fast during Lent? Do you
fast outside of Lent? Why do you fast? Let us pray this Lenten season
that we learn how
to better incorpo-
rate fasting into
our lives as a way
to intensify the
prayer experience.
