In today˅s Gospel, Jesus is sharing a meal with His disciples, and is deeply trou-
bled. He knows that he will be betrayed by those closest to him.
He predicts the betrayal of both Judas and Peter, and tells his disciples he will be
with them only a little while longer, and that where he˅s going, they cannot follow
Reflection
Reading this Gospel, it˅s easy for us now to be critical of both Judas and Peter
for betraying and denying Jesus (Why, I would never do that!).
But be honest:
Aren˅t we denying Jesus in our lives
right now?
How often are we neglectful of the
poor?
How many times do we cast judgment
on other people?
When are the times we refuse to stand
up for friends and family members when they most need our support?
How often do we engage in gossip, or are two-faced with people we know?
Don˅t we many times act more like Pharisees than good Samaritans?
Peter claims he would lay down his life for Jesus, but then quickly denies him
three times. We claim to be followers of Christ, but in our everyday lives encoun-
ter situations where we don˅t follow Christ at all:
We are impatient with our children and spouses. Often we are petty and spiteful.
