Summary
Throughout the Readings,
Psalm, and Gospel today, the theme sur-
rounds “The holy dwelling of the Most High”.
Be it a temple, the “temple of His Body
(Jesus Christ), or our own bodily temples, the
foundations are built by a truly wise Master
Builder on the unbreakable and immoveable
rock of God’s love.
Reflection
I will NEVER forget the moment that I stood on the remains of the Cathedral in
Haiti. As I bent down to pick up a piece of rubble, my heart spoke, “On this rock,
I will build my Church.” Oh… and what a truly beautiful Church we have! The
earth may shake, our hearts may rumble, but His Love will never waver and His
Church will never crumble. Today we celebrate the Feast of the Dedication of the
Lateran Basilica in Rome. The Lateran Basilica is “the Pope’s Church”. It is the
Cathedral that is home to the Papal throne and is ranked above all other
Churches. But even the honor that this Archbasilica holds, we know that His
Church is founded on a love that cannot be contained in merely a building. In
today’s Gospel, Jesus says to the Jews, “Destroy this temple and in three days I
will raise it up.(Jn 2:19) He was speaking of the temple of his Body. In 1 Corin-
thians 3:9c Saint Paul tells us, “You are God’s building.” He reminds us that we
are holy. We are God’s dwelling place. We are the Body of Christ, as Church,
as one people. How are you being built on the foundation of Christ? How are
you permitting the Spirit to dwell in you? How are you allowing yourself to be sol-
idly molded to the Body of Christ?
