Summary
We are in the last week of the liturgical year, after celebrating
the feast of Christ the King this past Sunday. This Sunday we
start the Season of Advent, with the immediate thoughts of the Parousia and the
Second Coming of Jesus Christ, together with the preparations for the birth of
Christ.
Reflection
This particular time of the season brings out the meaning of both the readings
today in connection with the pilgrim journey of our life.
The readings today are rich with symbolisms, especially from the book of Daniel
which was written for a people who were undergoing severe and continued per-
secution. Both Daniel and Jesus invite the attention of the people of their times
and us to look forward to the glorious life that is to come after all that we have to
face in this life. Daniel, though full of symbolisms, is very clear in saying that all
those powers and
kingdoms of this
world will vanish and
the glorious power
and dominion of the
Son of man, Christ
the Lord, will only re-
main forever. All evil
will be overcome by
good. God is all
powerful and He will
not let his people be
destroyed by evil.
