Joel 4:12-21
Psalm 97:1-2, 5-6, 11-12
Luke 11:27-28
Summary
A woman from the crowd said to Jesus:
"Blessed is the womb that carried you
and the breasts at which you nursed."
Jesus replied, "Rather, blessed are those
who hear the word of God and observe it."
(Luke 11:28)
Reflection
Although it is hard for most of us to hear Jesus dismissing the words
from the crowd honoring his mother, when one takes a moment of
reflection, one remembers that Mary was always and at every turn a
supporter of God and Jesus’ mission.
Still Jesus calls us to hear his
word and observe it. At our
baptism, the word of God
proclaimed that we have
eternal life and forgiveness of
our sins. Even though we
journey toward death and
discover ourselves as sinners
at every turn, we have the
ongoing opportunity to be
blessed through our hearing that word and believing it.
