Summary
There is certainly a lot of gravity in today’s readings, offering
caution about judging others as well as caution not to dis-
count God’s kindness. It seems there are times we tend to
think of ourselves as honorable based on our actions or intel-
lect, but often our actions condemn us rather than cause us
to be honorable.
Reflection
It is the old adage, “while your pointing the finger at someone else,
you are pointing 3 back at yourself”. We are sometimes guilty of the
very thing we are pointing out in someone else. “Your Honor” is at-
tributed to the judge in a court of law, but man’s justice is not always
just. If we read on in the book of Romans we find our true Justice
came through the person of Jesus. Once we understand the gravity of
such a gift, repentance will occur…“that the kindness of God would
lead you to repentance? (Rom. 2:4) God is described as the righteous
judge who judges based on truth and shows no favoritism. Grasping
the truth of His love for us, we ought to be compelled to live lives of
gratitude and kindness. I do believe God wants us to behave in hon-
orable ways, but not for honors sake, but rather for His sake. By hon-
oring others we are honoring Him, as we are all His children and be-
loved disciples.
The Psalms reading seems to be emphasizing, “rest” juxtaposed to
“disturbed”. It caused me to consider that when I’m not trusting in
the Lord my soul becomes uneasy. It is in those times that I find my-
