Romans 6:12-18
Psalm 124:1B-3, 4-6, 7-8
Luke 12:39-48
Summary
The Gospel says (to me) that one needs to always be prepared for the
coming of the Lord. The faithful person should be the “faithful and pru-
dent steward,” to have true faith – always – not just when they think
they are being watched. It is a daunting task to keep the faith and not
falter, but the reward will be great. “Much will be required of the person
entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person en-
trusted with more.”
Reflection
God is always watching. He has given us free will.
There is a similar lesson in the reading from Romans; if you do not commit the
mortal body to sin, you will be rewarded. Even if you do fall into sin, you can free
yourself from that sin and receive the reward. It may sound like a simple com-
mand, but how do you do it? How do you live your daily life being the faithful
servant – without sin. This is the hard part. What about temptation? How do
we resist, and if we cannot resist, should we rely on God’s forgiveness? I be-
lieve we can help ourselves live the faithful life and resist sin by constantly learn-
ing and re-learning the teachings of God.
