Here and elsewhere in the gospel stories, Jesus insists that this is not
the case. God does not “will” bad things to happen to people. That
is why God reveals a way of life that leads to goodness, not evil.
My mother and father gave me many suggestions for my life. Some
of them I observed and others I chose a different path. On that
alternative path the results were sometimes dreadful. But my choices
to not follow my parent’s suggestions were my own, and I was not
being punished by my folks for not following their suggestions. It was
simply a lesson I had to learn.
My hope is that in asking “why me” you will find God’s comfort and
perhaps an answer of comfort. If no answer comes I hope that
God’s presence will break through the hurt
to reveal the love of Jesus right where you
are.
Prayer
Lord, you are a loving parent to me, guiding
me and showing me what is right and good
for me. Help me to follow you and your
ways. Lead me on the path safely home to
you. Amen.
